Announcing July's Is My Blog Burning?

IMBB 17: tasteTea. Special thanks to Renée for lending me her stash of tea to photograph.

On July 31st, I’ll have the honour of hosting the 17th edition of the food blogging phenomenon Is My Blog Burning?  Created by the eminent Alberto of Il Forno, IMBB brings together dozens of bloggers from around the world each month to cook dishes with a common theme.

The event has been the inspiration behind many other wonderful food blogging events including Sugar High Fridays, Wine Blogging Wednesdays, Paper Chef, Does My Blog Look Good in This? and of course the eccentric End of Month Egg on Toast Extravaganza.

For July, I’m delighted to announce that the theme will be… tasteTea!

Huh?

Let me clarify.  tasteTea, as in a tasty dish of your choice prepared with tea.

Any dish or drink that’s made with tea qualifies.  On the weekend of July 31st, simply post an entry about your tasteTea dish on your blog, and e-mail me a link to it at alacuisine@gmail.com.  Beginning August 1st, I’ll profile 10-15 entries each day until we’ve looked at them all.  Hopefully this will give each entry a bit more exposure than normal, and will prevent me from going insane if there are many entries.

Everyone, whether you’re a food blogger or not, is welcome and encouraged to participate.  If you need a place to post your entry, I’d be glad to host it for you.

For many of us, tea is very much a ritual in our lives.  Often it’s not so much about the tea itself, but the events with which we associate tea with.  As an optional part of this month’s IMBB, I’d like to invite you to share with us your own tea rituals and experiences.  Depending on the number of participants, I’ll either link to your entry as part of the main round-up or do a separate mini tea rituals round-up.

I’m very excited about hosting this month’s IMBB, and I look forward to reading everyone’s entries.  If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me or leave a comment.

Now, let's get brewing!

What a provocative ingredient! I've been collecting recipes using tea as a central ingredient for the last year! Perfect!

Great theme, Clement. I recently picked up some unusual teas and had something in mind for them. It must be fate!

Tea...now thats nothing short of an obsession for the whole Indian subcontinent :) I'll have plenty to blog about...great theme!

hiya, what a terrific theme! only problem would be narrowing it down...cheers,j

wow great theme! I have some REALLY good tea about to arrive at any minute so this is perfect!

What a fabulous theme! I'm going to start thinking of ways to use tea...well, I may wait till morning; but still...can't wait!

fantasTEA!!! thanks for hosting.

Hi Clement,

Thanks for hosting! What a wonderful theme. You can count me in! =)

Great theme Clement! Now, I wonder... how can I use tea AND eggs in one all-singing, all-dancing recipe??? :P

I am really happy about this idea. It is common ground for all of us, yet so personal. I will be on holiday up in Scotland with my American parents and my Scottish mother in law, the potential for tea discourse is immense. Looking forward to seeing what brews.

What a lovely idea! Thank you. I will of course take part and share stories of mailing 10 pound packages of tea around the world and my first ever Burmese tea salad and so on...plus of course, whatever I come up with to make!

oooh, my family lives for teatime!!! wonderful idea.

Pure genius. I'm looking forward to this one!

Interesting! I'll have to work hard to come up with something... better get a move-on! ;)

Hi Clement - such a great theme! I think I'll have to go with matcha as a Japanese...

Brilliant.
Tea is probably the only thing I consume every single day of my life. Love it.

What a wonderful idea! I think I will join this event for the first time...

good idea! i've been inspired by some wacky green tea recipes lately. i'm going to try one out and see how it turns out ... cheers, steve

I only started participating last month and I'm so glad I did! I LOVE this theme--I've been experimenting in cooking with green tea. Great idea!

oh my goodness, what a great idea! I salivate just thinking about the tea eggs I used to eat. I'll try to come up with something, and maybe I can rope Emily into it. Nice meeting you at her party last time, btw!

This sounds great. I've never cooked with tea, but seen some fun recipes. Looking forward to it!

Hi clement, im very glad you've invited everyone even the ones that arent food bloggers; im actually trying to build a web site about food, but its much more complicated than i had though. Then im gonna think of some recipes for this "is my blog burning" and ill post them on my usual blog.
Love
Fanny

Do herb teas count, or should entries be restricted to real tea as an ingredient?

(Alas, I'm a barbarian, and don't like the taste of real tea. I've been thinking of using a spiced herbal tea as the base for a sorbet and/or ice cream, though. Or, if I have to use real tea, perhaps I could try tea-smoking some chicken or salmon.)

I LOVE it. This is going to be sensational. Thanks!

Rachael

Hi everyone, I'm very glad you're all looking forward to IMBB. I can't wait to read everyone's entries!

Jane - It was very nice to meet you too. Look forward to seeing what you and Emily will cook up. If you ever do visit Camp 31 for ribs, please let me know how they are!

Fanny - Great to see you've started a food blog!

Bruce - Either is would be fine. Herbal tea sorbet/ice cream does sound very interesting. Look forward to seeing what you'll come up with.
